The story of a whaling voyage that expands to take in the realms of politics, philosophy, history, science and all that lies beneath – while always in pursuit of a mythic white whale – it is an unrivalled feat of the imagination.

Two American Literature specialists guide this conversation, Dr Stephen Harris, who has published widely in the field, and Dr Sascha Morrell, who has a longstanding research interest in Herman Melville
